Apologies...

So we all know (or I hope we all know) that Senator Dick Durbin was a bit out of line when he compared prisoner treatment at GTMO to that of the Nazis and Stalin's Gulags. For some reason millions murdered versus turning the air conditioning off is something that Sen. Durbin found worthy of equating. In any case, he wisely "apologized" on the floor of the senate soon after.

So the other day Karl Rove, or the "evil all-powerful architect" of the Bush presidency, as some would have it, made a fairly accurate statement on Wednesday:

"Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers." Conservatives, he said, "saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."

I will question Rove's timing, as it is quite obviously poor. The statement, however, is right on the mark. In the days when the Democrat's policies are echoed by moveon.org and Michael Moore, I'd have to say Rove's statement was excellent.

In related news, Hillary Clinton co-authored a letter to Rove claiming that his statement was:

"a slap in the face to the unity that America achieved after Sept. 11, 2001."

Hmmmm... How about this statement - which Senator Clinton obviously sees as unifying:

"I hate the Republicans and everything they stand for..."

Of Course, this statement was made by Howard Dean while vying to be the DNC chairman. Or how about this for unifying the political parties:

"[Republicans are] a pretty monolithic party. They all behave the same. They all look the same. It's pretty much a white Christian party."

This comment was made in San Francisco by Dean at the same kind benefit as Karl Rove attended. Has there been any kind of apology requested for these comments? Are they unifying? I am glad, though, that Rove could give the Democrats something to fire back at after Sen. Durbin's remarks - they needed something to complain about.
