On Saturday the NYTimes printed an article entitled Government Defies an Order to Release Iraq Abuse Photos. The article described how the Bush administration defied a federal court order to release information on Abu Graib. However, today the Times wrote a correction to the story that appeared on Saturday. The correction states:
The government was given until Friday to black out some identifying details in the material, not to release it. Defense Department lawyers met that deadline, but asked the court to block the public release of the materials. They did not refuse to cooperate with an order for the materials' release.
So the whole story was actually completely wrong. Thanks to our friends at the Times its readership that failed to look through the corrections section will never notice that they fabricated an entire story.
