Political Dialogs

Volume 2: Concerns

It became obvious to me during the course of yesterday's session that none of the students there had any real clue why they believed in what they believed. Only one of the students actually admitted that their political ideology was completely unfounded, but again, none of the students gave any concrete evidence that their conservative or liberal views were the basis of anything besides what their parents told them to be, with the exception of the one student and his complete faith in the New York Times.

This thought gives me great concern, in that it shows a clearly politically uneducated public as far as students are concerned. I know that this test sample is quite small, but it shows to me again how important educating oneself is in understanding world events as well as politics.

It is imperative that we all make an effort to educate ourselves in as many ways as possible in order to truly understand and defend our positions on issues, whether political or not. Try not to get all your news from one source, whether it be a newspaper, TV network, or blog. Because let me tell you - if you ever get into a discussion with nothing to back you up besides the fact that your parents told you what to believe when you were a kid - you're going to look pretty stupid.
