The NY Times Daily... Wow...

From the all too easily spoofed corrections page listed under "Editor's Note:"

The Practical Traveler column in the Travel section on Oct. 16, about passengers' rights when an airline files for bankruptcy, included a reference to two smaller lines, Spirit and Independence Air, that were "believed by analysts to be on the verge of bankruptcy." The Times should have sought comment from the lines. Disputing the report, a spokeswoman for Spirit says that it received $100 million in new financing in July and that it will be starting service next month to four international destinations. As for Independence, it reported to the Securities and Exchange Commission recently that it was making contingency plans for a potential bankruptcy filing.

Translation: The Times did a report on airlines, and some "analyst" told them that two small airlines were also going out of business. Leave it to the Times to not actually ask those airlines about their financial status before running the story. I think that the Times was sure that they were right; however, that's hardly journalism...
