Galactic Warming?

Astronomers announced today that a star in the Sagittarius constellation, SGR 1806-20, created the largest starburst ever observed on earth. An astronomer at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics reported that, "it gave off more energy in 0.2 seconds than the Sun does in 100,000 to 200,000 years."

While not visible to the naked eye because most the energy was in gamma rays, the December 27 flare was 100 times as powerful as giant magnetic flares observed in 1979 and 1998.

Liberals and environmentalists were quick to attribute this unusual galactic activity to the species of man inhabiting planet Earth, suggesting that CFC's released from aerosol spray cans and trucks made by American automobile manufacturers probably contributed to the intensity of the blast. When asked for comment, Diane Feinstein (D-CA) predicted that, "these are just the initial indicators of galactic doom; the United States risks certain death if we do not begin to respect our international allies by joining the Kyoto Treaty."
