Animal House lives on

As I'm watching the Nadagate "scandal" unfold, it turns out that even White House correspondents and bureau chiefs have a little fun with their news. Democrats initially took Matt Cooper's description of his conversation with Karl Rove, "double super secret background," to prove that Karl was maliciously pulling the strings of a giant defamation machine.

As it turns out, Matt Cooper testified that the phrase was a spoof on Dean Wormer's order "double-secret probation" of the Delta house form everyone's favorite fratter flick, Animal House.

Nice try, DNC, better luck next time.

Coincidentally, the conversation began with the introduction, "Hi. Matt Cooper, reporter for Time. Damn glad to meet ya." The discussion continued as Rove playfully claimed, "Want some CIA identities? Don't cost nothin'."
