Reuters reports today some scary quotes from our shuttle crew currently in orbit. It seems that shuttle commander Eileen Collins isn't concerned about the shuttle's re-entry, but she's worried about what she sees out the window:
Sometimes you can see how there is erosion, and you can see how there is deforestation. It's very widespread in some parts of the world.
We would like to see, from the astronauts' point of view, people take good care of the Earth and replace the resources that have been used.
"The atmosphere almost looks like an eggshell on an egg, it's so very thin," she said. "We know that we don't have much air, we need to protect what we have."
What the hell? She can see erosion and deforestation from space? I can't see either from Google Maps! And last time I checked, we aren't running out of air... what is this, Spaceballs?

I think NASA may have to relax some of its standards to find willing "scientists." I bet shes wreally concerned about what Martians have done to the ice caps on the Red Planet.
And then she said to herself, "Wait Eileen! Haven't you been doing crystalized methamphetamines for the past seven hours? Couldn't these images all just be in your mind? And guess what...
they were.
