The Democrats have a major problem. They can't seem to understand that they are in fact the majority party in congress. While they might have passed all of the legislation they wanted to in their first 100 hours, Democrats on the Hill still fire off mindless sound bites to national media agencies in the same ways they have been doing for the past 12 years - to get an anti-administration or anti-Republican headline.
Powerline covers these instances directly, and here are the examples:
Nancy Pelosi: The president knows that because the troops are in harm's way, that we won't cut off the resources. That's why he's moving so quickly to put them in harm's way.
So, in order to keep the war going the President is willing to place American troops in situations where they'll be killed? Not only is this statement delusional, it is also a desperate attempt to find some sort of other explanation for the war in Iraq. Pelosi demonstrates her cognitive instability by making this claim, and borders on demonstrating an inability to serve in congress.
Harry Reid: The president does not have the authority to launch military action in Iran without first seeking congressional authorization.
We've been here before, but the idiocy in this statement can easily be demonstrated by reading the US Constitution, which makes the President the Commander in Chief of the US armed forces. It's unclear whether Reid knows this, or if he makes untrue statements on purpose in an attempt to get a headline. It's akin to saying "the Earth is flat" with the hopes of seeing yourself on the evening news.
The Democrats need to step up and stop grandstanding. It seems they are having quite a time in getting past their previous 12-year minority mindset. Maybe eventually they will quit obstructing themselves and actually lead this country. If Reid and Pelosi don't want more troops in Iraq they should start actually "leading" and come up with an alternative.
The problem is that the Democrats want to cut and run, and are too scared to still admit it - what with Hillary Clinton aiming at the Presidency.
